About BC SPCA Summer Camps

BC SPCA Summer CampsMake this summer one to remember!

Sign up for summer camp at the BC SPCA and you’ll get to spend a whole week immersed in the world of animals.

Play animal-themed games, meet animal experts and get crafty. Connect with new friends (both furry and human) and become the expert on animals in your family!

Plus, everyone’s favourite part of summer camp… spending time with the animals!

For one hour each day, you’ll have the chance to interact with some of the friendliest cats and small animals at the shelter, as well as some lovable dogs belonging to BC SPCA staff members.

Last year Jordan came to camp knowing that he loved animals and was hoping that after his camp experience he would be able to convince his parents that he was BC SPCA Summer Camp Kids - West Vancouverready to care for a pet.

He thought that he wanted a dog and met some lovable pooches that belonged to the counsellors but when they went on the dog walk in the rain, he realized that picking up poo was grosser than he thought and having to walk a dog every day even in the rain wasn’t that much fun.

He never considered himself a cat person but then he met Harold, a tabby with only one eye. Harold had a severe eye infection that wasn’t cared for in time so he had to have an eye removed. Jordan couldn’t imagine anyone being so cruel to this old guy that had a loud purr and love to rub his head against the cage whenever Jordan was near. He learned about the benefits of BC SPCA Summer Campskeeping cats indoors (no walks in the rain) and that cleaning a litter box involved using a scoop and not having to use your hand in a bag to pick it up.

Jordan asked his mom to come and see Harold every day after camp and even though they weren’t quite ready to get a pet right away, Jordan knew he would look for a special cat that he could provide a great home for when it was time.

Every BC SPCA summer camper leaves with their own story. What will yours be? Register your little one, and get ready for a week they’ll never forget.

Note for parents: In order to provide a full learning experience and to ensure the well-being of animals in our care, time spent with animals each day is usually limited to approximately one hour. Kittens and small animals in the shelter will be determined as suitable for interaction with children by experienced shelter staff.

For safety reasons, campers will not interact directly with dogs in the shelter. Instead, they will interact with dogs belonging to staff members. All dogs attending camp have been temperament tested by BC SPCA animal welfare professionals.
