It’s ‘owl aboard’ at Wild ARC
The transition from busy baby summer to fall’s shorter
days, signals the arrival of many owls in need of help at rehabilitation
centres across B.C. Learn why this time of year poses a particular risk for
these nocturnal hunters, and take a peek behind the scenes at some of Wild
ARC’s current patients.
How many wild animals
are used in science?
Many
people have an unsettling memory of dissecting a frog in their education, yet
the number of wild animals used for science in Canada each year is a mystery
because only certain animals are counted. While some research is done to
benefit wild species, other testing and teaching is conducted for human
purposes. It’s important to reflect on how animals are sacrificed for science
and how this can be reduced.
Save our slugs!
British Columbia is home to an amazing array of wildlife,
such as the small and secretive blue-grey taildropper slug found only on
Vancouver Island. Sadly, like other endangered species, the taildropper is
facing increasing threats from habitat destruction, fragmentation and
degradation. Help protect our biodiversity! Ask the provincial government to
enact meaningful standalone endangered species legislation.
Drum roll please...
