One Million Adoptions

On Nov. 25, the BC SPCA celebrated a very big milestone – the adoption of the one MILLIONTH animal in our care.

So who was the lucky millionth animal? An 11-week-old grey tabby kitten named Meetsa, who found her forever home with the Stakic family after a stay at the Richmond SPCA.

Check out this special video to learn more about Meetsa’s adoption and see her in action, along with some of the other animals at the SPCA.

If your family has adopted from the BC SPCA, thank you for being one in a million! If you’re thinking about welcoming a new furry friend into your home, remember that you can see photos and read about animals awaiting adoption at spca.bc.ca/adopt.

Kindness Wins!

Thank you to the amazing, kind kids who entered the Bark! My Kind Acts Contest. We asked you to send in your kindness hat-trick (three kind acts you’ve done this year) for the chance at a signed Henrik Sedin poster. Here are the winners, along with a kind act from each.

Jaelyn Foster, 10, Kelowna
Found a lost kitten, called the owner and returned to the kitten to them

Ava Manke, 8, Summerland
Let a wild bear live on her family’s farm

Faith Manke, 10, Summerland
Started two animal clubs, the Fur & Feathers Animal Club and the South Okanagan Dog Walking Club

Anna Fengler, 10, Vancouver
Took care of a neighbour’s dog while she was away

Our Million Acts of Kindness campaign has now come to a close. Thanks to caring people all across B.C., we reached our goal of one million kind acts for animals in 2015!

The mystery of where Molly came from and how she ended up wandering along a deserted forestry road may never be solved, but we’re just glad someone found her and brought her to the SPCA!

While Molly’s previous guardians could not be found, thankfully another family soon welcomed her into their home. Not only does this sweet girl enjoy two daily walks, she also has free run of the backyard, where she explores and plays with the kids in her family.

And Molly’s not the only dog in the house. She now has a canine brother named Sandler. The two love to wrestle every morning!

Thank you to Molly’s family for giving this old girl a second chance at happiness.

Has your family adopted an animal from the BC SPCA? Share your story and your pet could be featured on our website!

December’s Furry Friend of the Month is Winnie, a two-year-old gerbil looking for a new home with her two sisters, Roo and Eeyore.

Winnie, Roo and Eeyore enjoy digging around their habitat, chewing cardboard (toilet paper rolls are a favourite!) and nibbling on Cheerio treats. They need a caring home with a dedicated guardian who wants to make their lives as enriched and happy as possible. Want to learn more about caring for gerbils? Check out our Gerbil Care Guide!

Please note: Winnie, Roo and Eeyore were available for adoption at the time this article was written and may have found their forever home since then.

Visit the BC SPCA website to find more furry friends currently looking for homes.
