Nobody's Cats

Nobody's cats book cover

Guess what, Kids Club members? Your winter issue of Bark! is on its way, and with it is a FREE copy of the book Nobody’s Cats, just for you!

Based on a true story, Nobody’s Cats is about a boy who discovers some cats living in an old shed. When he asks around, no one seems to own them. But are they really “nobody’s cats”? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

Once you’ve read Nobody’s Cats, we’d love to hear what you think! You could draw a picture or write a poem inspired by the book. Or you could tell us what you would’ve done in the boy’s place to help the cats. Send your ideas to kids@spca.bc.ca, using the subject line “Nobody’s Cats.”

Not a Kids Club member yet? You’re in luck!
Be one of the first 25 kids to
sign up in February, and you’ll receive a bonus copy of Nobody’s Cats in your Kids Club welcome kit.

Pun-ny Valentine

Owl be your friend homemade valentine

Here at Kids Club headquarters, animal puns just quack us up. Honestly, we’re not kitten! And what better way to share our love of animal puns than with some very emu-sing handmade Valentine’s Day cards? Make them for your friends and family, and we guarantee they’ll toad-ally love them too.

All you’ll need is construction paper, scissors, glue and felt pens. Visit spca.bc.ca/crafts to print out, trace and assemble the heart shapes.

Can you think of some other animal puns for your Valentines? Share them with us – or, better yet, email us a picture of your pun-ny Valentine’s Day creations!

Kitty watching cupcakes being iced

National Cupcake Day for SPCAs & Humane Societies is just around the corner on February 29! Get in on the fun and open your own Online Bakery, where you can make cupcakes and other sweet treats in exchange for donations to help the animals.

Want to get your school involved? Ask your teacher about hosting a Cupcake Day Party at lunchtime.

CONTEST ALERT! In the winter issue of Bark!, we’ve challenged you to bake some delicious Pumpkin Pupcakes. Send us a photo of them and we’ll enter you in a draw to win a cookbook just for dogs, plus some bone-shaped cookie cutters and animal oven mitts. Mail your entries to Bark! Pupcake Contest, 1245 East 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5T 1R1 or email them to kids@spca.bc.ca.

Happy baking!

Frodo the GP

Say hello to friendly Frodo, February’s Furry Friend of the Month!

Frodo found himself at the Port Coquitlam SPCA when his guardian was overwhelmed with too many animals to care for.

Frodo was surrendered along with his buddy, Gandalf. These gentle boys are looking for a home together where they can have a roomy enclosure, lots of yummy veggies and some quiet lap time.

Not sure what it takes to be a great guinea pig guardian? Check out our Guinea Pig Care Guide!

Gandalf the GP

Please note: Frodo and Gandalf were available for adoption at the time this article was written and may have found their forever home since then.

Visit the BC SPCA website to find more furry friends currently looking for homes.
