A historic vote by the Vancouver Park Board commits to whale welfare

The BC SPCA applauds the Vancouver Park Board for their recent unanimous vote to amend bylaws to prohibit the importation and display of future whales, dolphins and porpoises on city lands. Wildlife research and rescue never requires public display or captive breeding of these highly intelligent animals. A new era of cetacean-free aquariums is emerging worldwide and is welcomed in B.C.

These feisty high-fliers are fearless in defending their territory from encroaching eagles, and will challenge each other to a mid-air duel. They battle feet-first and grasp their opponent with their talons, causing puncture wounds and other injuries – luckily, rehabilitators are there to help.
