Chirp, chirp! What’s that, a baby bird?

This time of year, you might find yourself coming across a baby bird on the ground. And if you’re an animal lover – which we know you are! – you might be tempted to help. But sometimes “helping” can actually mean harming, even if we don’t mean to.

If you're worried about a feathered friend and wondering what to do, use this handy chart to decide your best course of action. If ever you are unsure, call the BC SPCA hotline at 1-855-622-7722.

If you were a bird, which type of bird would you be? Maybe a Canada goose, or a great blue heron? Or perhaps you’re a blue jay, or a chickadee! You can now take this quiz to find out which bird best fits your personality – and learn about 22 different birds while you’re at it.

Along with their awesome quiz, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has all sorts of fun stuff for bird lovers on their website.

Wondering about the new feathered friend you spotted today? Download their free bird ID app! Or see how dinosaurs evolved into the birds we know today through their interactive game, Flap to the Future.

Whether you joined us last year, or you’re excited to check it out for the first time, BC SPCA summer camp is back this July and August!

We’re planning all kinds of fun animal-themed activities for new and returning campers. Games, crafts, guest speakers, skits and songs – you name it. And we can’t forget about animal time! Each day campers will be introduced to some specially-selected shelter animals and guest animals.

Twenty-two BC SPCA locations will be hosting camps this year, with many already open for registration. Kids Club members get a special member discount! Check it out at spca.bc.ca/camp.

eKids_Kitty_300x300.pngApril’s Furry Friend of the Month is Kitty, a three-year-old brown tabby cat.

Kitty is a sweet, spunky girl who loves to play. She has an outgoing personality and is curious about everything! Kitty was surrendered to the SPCA because her owner had too many cats, and is now looking for a new home where she can soak up lots of love and attention.

Kitty is currently living at the Trail SPCA while she awaits her forever home.

Please note: Kitty was available for adoption at the time this article was written and may have found her forever home since then. Visit the BC SPCA adoption website to find more furry friends currently looking for homes.
