We hear many great stories about kids who take action for animals. We appreciate all of you! Check out these two recent examples:

Wren and River (pictured, left), along with friends from their “Neighbourhood Gang,” hosted a lemonade stand in support of the Powell River SPCA. Together they raised $25. High Paws to the whole Neighbourhood Gang!

Ten-year-old Jacob baked and sold pet treats, raising funds and awareness for the Coquitlam SPCA. This kind act raised $12 for animals in the community. High Paws, Jacob!

Have you taken action for animals? With your parent or guardian’s permission, send your “High Paws” stories and photos to kids@spca.bc.ca and you could be included in a future e-Kids newsletter or Bark! magazine.

The summer, and the summer weather, aren’t over yet. It’s important to keep spreading the word to NOT leave pets in cars in warm or hot weather.

Page 6 of the Bark! summer issue shares an example of the type of poster that can help raise awareness and save animals. We encourage you to make your own poster and put it up (with permission) at your local grocery store or other community spot. Here are some tips to help your poster stand out:

• A bold, catchy heading

• An attention-grabbing main drawing or photo

• Short, simple messages (find important facts at spca.bc.ca/hotdogs)

• Very LARGE lettering

• And a website where people can learn more!

Please send photos of what you create to kids@spca.bc.ca so we can see the amazing action that you’re taking to help animals!

We are more than halfway through the 2024 BC SPCA summer camp season. Thank you to everyone who has joined us so far!

If you would still like to take part in camp this year, there are limited spots available in some locations. Visit spca.bc.ca/camp to see which camps are not yet full. If your chosen camp is full, you can request to be added to a waitlist by emailing camp@spca.bc.ca.

And no matter where you live, you can join us for a virtual program! Three options are coming up in August for ages 7-11: cats and small animals; dogs; and wildlife. Sign up for one, two or all three. Use the discount code VIRTUAL24 to register for free.
