Wow! We’ve been overwhelmed lately with the number of
awesome kids committing kind acts at BC SPCA shelters, and we know even more of you
are making a difference at home and at school. In honour of May’s Be Kind to
Animals Month, we want to recognize some of these kind acts (find more on our High Paws page).
Tyler wrote a speech about the BC SPCA's work to share at his school. He also collected blankets and towels for the Victoria SPCA.
For the second year in a
row, Jordan asked friends and
family for donations to the Nelson SPCA instead of birthday gifts. He raised
$180.
Lucy saved $250 by working a paper route. She used the money
to sponsor a cat kennel at the Victoria SPCA.
Shya and Kyla walked dogs for donations, giving them the
exercise they need while helping animals at the South Peace
SPCA.

We recently heard from Georgia Krombein, a 13-year-old Kids Club member
who has two cats adopted from the BC SPCA, Sophie and Tinki. Georgia’s kind act
was to make Sophie and Tinki a Tube
Treat Tower with the instructions
in the winter 2014 issue of Bark! magazine. Here's some of what Georgia had to say:
“They really love it
and understand what to do with it. Sophie approaches it like everything else in her life, with great confidence, while Tinki approaches it like everything else in
her life, with great caution and timidity.
“They seem to enjoy the treats much more when
they find the treats themselves rather than just being given them.”
Thank you,
Georgia, for sharing your kind act with us – and for your insightful comments
on how the tube tower makes treats more enjoyable for Sophie and Tinki.
BC SPCA summer camp is coming to 19 communities this July
and August – and registration is now open for most locations! Never been to BC
SPCA camp before? Here’s what to expect:
The games and crafts you’ll be doing are specially designed
for animal lovers like you. You’ll discover all sorts of things you never knew
about pets, farm animals and wildlife, get the inside scoop from animal experts
and have chances throughout the week to interact directly with animals. And you’ll
be surrounded by other kids who love animals just as much as you do – what could
be more fun than that?

Many thanks to 11-year-old Leanne Grover from Victoria for
suggesting May’s Furry Friend of the Month. Leanne has two mice at home named
Pip and Bink, and recently noticed that a mouse named Grape is at the Victoria SPCA in need of a home. She
asked us to feature Grape to help her find a family.
Grape
the mouse is patiently waiting for a forever home. Grape is two years old,
which is quite old for a mouse. She would like to spend her retirement with a
nice family, with all the things a mouse needs – including a large, clean, comfy
and interesting habitat, a proper mouse diet with plenty of fresh water, and
regular exercise. Think your family might be up for the job? Check out our Mouse
Care Guide to learn more about mice and their care needs.
Please note: Grape was available for adoption at the
time this article was written, and may have found her forever home since then.
Visit the BC SPCA website to discover more furry friends currently
looking for homes.
