Houston rescue numbers continue to climb

Dear loving friend,

I know you've been following this major story for the past few weeks - a truly unparalleled intake of over 250 cats and kittens! Thank you for your deep love for animals and sharing your generous heart with these precious ones. Knowing your commitment to these cats, I wanted to make sure you were updated on the situation.

Your generosity and kindness have been truly breathtaking. This community of animal-lovers has rallied around to provide critical resources for these innocent cats in a huge rescue effort, and your outpouring of compassion has warmed the hearts of every care taker, veterinarian and other animal lover involved. In fact, it has warmed a certain someone’s heart so much that they are offering a special matching gift today (read on to find out more about this touching opportunity…but first some kitten news!).

Kittens being checked over in care

It’s no surprise that a rescue of this size has put a strain on BC SPCA resources, requiring many staff to shift their focus to ensure each of these cats gets the loving care they need. I am happy to share that every cat brought into BC SPCA care has now been placed with a loving foster family or is receiving the treatments they need at an animal centre. It was your love that made it possible.

With several pregnant mums close to birth on arrival, the number of kittens has been climbing. Theresa and her four babies are just one of the new families who are now receiving dedicated care thanks to your kindness.

Theresa and her wee babies

Two days after arriving, Theresa gifted us four adorable bundles of joy. The new family were quickly moved into a caring foster home to ensure they had a calm environment as they began to bond. She is a super mum, and her wee ones are growing like weeds already! It’s important they are closely monitored, and Theresa receives enough food to be able to produce milk for her babies. In moments like this, I feel comfort knowing this new mum and her kittens are in a place where they can be nurtured and given every opportunity for a happy life.

It’s with your dedicated help that we can ensure that happens for the next litter.

As many of our caring teams across the province continue to focus on this large group of cats and kittens, today I am asking you to take the next step. Will you consider being there for the next large group and litter of babies who need you? By becoming a loyal monthly donor and joining our PAW Plan community, your committed ongoing support will provide vital care when exceptional cases like this arise.

Right now, thanks to an inspired group of animal-lovers, every new monthly gift will be matched for the first 12 months, up to $10,000. If you generously choose to join our PAW Plan community today, your first year of monthly donations will have double the impact for precious animals like these cats and kittens.

Please consider starting a $5 monthly gift - the reach of your love will go even further, and you will provide a safety net for the next wee ones who need you.

If the first few months of 2024 are anything to go by, we are looking ahead at yet another extremely busy year; as well as a summer that is likely to involve wildfire evacuations and pets who need emergency boarding. The animals need you beside them more than ever.

Fellow animal lover, will you be a loving friend to the animals who need you every month? Your caring monthly gift will be doubled for the first year thanks to a generous group of animal-lovers like you.

You’ll have control and total flexibility over your kind-hearted gift, so you can pause or cancel at any time to ensure you only give what you are able to. We understand that all our lives fluctuate.

Whether you choose to take the next step for animals in need today by joining our PAW Plan community today or not, I know you always have the animals close to your heart. Thank you for your compassion and every loving action you take for animals in need. Winnie is grateful as well!

P.S. It is hard to describe just how important the monthly gifts of PAW plan donors are to the animals helped by the BC SPCA. Caring monthly donors provide a lifeline for animals when they need it most and help us plan for the future. Starting a monthly gift today allows you to be there for the most vulnerable animals year-round. Plus, right now your monthly gifts will be matched for an entire year!
