Remembering animals who served

This month, the BC SPCA joins fellow Canadians in honouring those who have risked or lost their lives in war.

In addition to the many brave men and women, we recognize the millions of animals who have served, including dogs, cats, horses, pigeons, donkeys, reindeer, elephants, mice, rats, canaries and even glowworms.

Leave a legacy of caring

You can always be there for them. Consider making a lasting impact by leaving a gift in your will to animals in need.

By leaving a legacy of caring, you can ensure that the values and beliefs you stood for during your lifetime continue to benefit future generations of animals.

Protect your animal companions from winter’s wrath

It’s getting chillier outside; taking precautions to protect the animals in your care from winter’s cold temperatures can help keep them safe and healthy this season. The BC SPCA is offering some helpful pet care tips to keep in mind while the weather outside is frightful.

Bring outdoor dogs inside

Each year the BC SPCA responds to hundreds of calls about dogs left isolated outdoors for long periods of time, often tethered on a chain or a rope.

Learn about the risks for outdoor dogs, as well as training tips for bringing an outdoor dog inside and how you can take action to help outdoor dogs.

Salt Spring SPCA hopes to solve island’s cat crisis

Salt Spring SPCA needs your help to address the island’s cat crisis. There are approximately 1,600 stray cats on the island, many of whom live short, painful lives, leaving behind kittens who repeat the cycle.

The late Margaret Franey left a $50,000 matching gift to create a spay/neuter fund to tackle overpopulation. Donate to the campaign and see your gift double.

Donor of the month

We are thrilled to honour Prince George Entertainment Group for their continued support of the BC SPCA.

This community-focused company is an all-inclusive DJ and event services provider that frequently donates its services to the North Cariboo Branch.

Thank you to owners Dave Mothus, Steve Brawn and all of the staff at PG Entertainment!

Paw Patter

In August 1946, a pigeon named GI Joe was awarded the Dickin medal for making the most outstanding flight of any army pigeon in the Second World War.

Flying more than 32 kilometres, he reached the British army with a message just in time to save at least 100 Allied soldiers from being bombed by their own planes.
