December 2013 Issue 130
Mom is a very sweet, senior cat. She came to us with a broken pelvis. Mom is now healing up and looking for a companion who is willing to give her a retirement home she deserves.
All gifts given before Dec. 31 up to $40,000 will be matched dollar for dollar. So if you give $100, it turns into $200 to help the animals!
Have a merry and safe holiday season
The holiday season is here and many British Columbians are busy putting up festive decorations, playing familiar carols, trimming Christmas trees and baking a bunch of delicious treats.
But the holidays can be hazardous for your pets. Find out how you can ensure your animal companions will have a safe and healthy festive season.
Holidays can be healthy
Tired of the same holiday recipes year after year? Looking for a dish that doesn’t call for stretchy sweatpants? Look no further! This festive Christmas Tree Salad is not only eye-catching, but absolutely delicious – perfectly fitting for a holiday lunch, dinner or potluck.
The BC SPCA’s spay/neuter grants program is available to help communities throughout British Columbia address the tragedy of pet overpopulation.
Now in its second year, the program allocates funds to animal
charities, non-profits, municipalities, veterinarians, BC SPCA branches
and First Nations communities. The deadline to apply for a grant is Feb.

Donor
of the month
Rather than asking for presents for her seventh birthday, Eva Grdina asked her family to help animals by donating to the BC SPCA.
Eva loves her dogs, Cleo and Jakey, and though Jakey died when she was three, she still includes him in all the family portraits she draws. In celebration, we will name animals in Jakey’s memory this month.
Paw Patter
With names like Dasher, Comet, Donner and Blitzen, it is commonly believed that Santa Claus has an all-male team of reindeer pulling his famous sleigh.
However, although both male and female reindeer have antlers, males tend to shed theirs in early December, suggesting that Santa’s reindeer might actually be female.
