Pet on the Net

For over a year Ace has been at the shelter waiting for his forever home. All this elderly gentleman needs is a warm bed, good food and an occasional cheek rub.

Read Ace's adoption profile.

Happy Endings

Happy Ending Story

Pop's was an older stray who lost an ear to mites, but that didn't faze him and now he is happily "retired" with his forever home.

Has she been staying out too late...?

Be a part of the solution and not the problem. February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month and the BC SPCA is calling on all British Columbians to come together as a community to help solve the tragic pet overpopulation problem throughout the province.

Watch our new video and share it with your friends and family to help spread the message.

Molly’s owners face cruelty charges

Molly-update200.jpg

Charges of animal cruelty have been approved against the owners of Molly, a German shepherd cross found outside, emaciated and shivering, with a collar buried in her neck, in November near Port Hardy.

Although near death when found, she has responded well to treatment. Rupert Wilson and Crystal Bee face charges under the Criminal Code of Canada following a BC SPCA investigation.

Help B.C. horses in need

horse200.jpg

Help make 2014 a happier, healthier year for horses. In the Chinese Zodiac, it’s the Year of the Horse, but since late October, the BC SPCA has removed 49 horses from distress – many neglected and/or shockingly emaciated – from properties throughout B.C.

You can help by reporting animal cruelty at 1-855-622-7722 or by donating to support animals in need.

Hero of the month

Helena-Santos-Cat200.jpg

Helena Santos’ 50th birthday wish was to raise both funds and awareness for the animals she loves so dearly. By planning an exciting weekend of events, including an educational tour of the Vancouver Shelter, Helena raised more than $3,000 for animals across the province.

Thank you Helena for being such a fantastic ambassador for the BC SPCA!

Paw Patter

rats-paw-patter200.jpgDo you think of rats as Good Samaritans? Scientific research has revealed that rats – just like humans – feel empathy.

When given a choice between freeing a trapped cagemate and keeping a chocolate treat all to themselves, most rats liberated their cagemate before they feasted on the chocolate together.
