Celebrate Wildlife Month!

April is Wildlife Month! Here are just a few ideas to help you celebrate and protect our wild friends:

Draw a bird

Draw a bird. Do you love birds and drawing? Then you’re in luck, because this upcoming Tuesday, April 8 is Draw a Bird Day! Want to hone your bird-drawing skills before the big day? Check out YouTube for tutorials or visit your local library to find a book to learn from.

BC SPCA Critter Cam

Watch the BC SPCA Critter Cam. Get an adorable sneak peek at some of the wild animals in care at the BC SPCA Wild ARC!

Earth Day

Take action for Earth. A big part of keeping wildlife safe is keeping Planet Earth healthy. Earth Day is officially April 22, but it’s important to consider how our actions affect the Earth every day. Visit earthday.ca/kids for tons of fun games and activities you can do to take action for Earth this month and all throughout the year.

Baby birds

Beware of babies. It’s baby bird season! Learn how to tell when a baby bird really needs your help – and when you should leave it alone.

Rescued bird

Enter the e-Kids Wild About Babies Contest. Check out this photo of a rescued baby bird. Look familiar? The first BC SPCA Kids Club member to correctly guess what type of baby bird this is will win a WILD prize! Email us at kids@spca.bc.ca with your answer, name and mailing address.

Summer camp

It’s that time of year again! Registration is open now for BC SPCA Among Animals summer camps in the Lower Mainland, Victoria, Penticton and Kelowna.

Registration for more locations will open throughout the spring, so check back to spca.bc.ca/camp or contact your local BC SPCA branch to see if a camp will be offered in your area.

At camp, you’ll learn a ton about animals, play games, do crafts and make new friends. And best of all? You’ll get approximately one hour of hands-on time with animals each and every day!

Can’t wait until summer? This month, SPCAs in Vancouver, Penticton and Kelowna are offering Wild Things youth workshops. Check it out!

Furry Friend of the Month

Cathy

April's Furry Friend of the Month is Cathy, a young adult black cat up for adoption at the Kamloops SPCA.

Cathy is pretty, playful and loves to be showered with attention. She can be a bit michievous and will surely provide hours of entertainment to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her!

Please note: Cathy was available for adoption at the time this article was written, and may have found her forever home since then. Visit the BC SPCA website to discover more furry friends currently looking for homes.
