Dear Friend,

As 2009 draws to a close I’d like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for the role you have played in helping to end animal cruelty in communities across British Columbia.

 Craig Daniell, CEO

With your help, we were able to rescue thousands of animals from violent and neglectful situations, to provide veterinary care and rehabilitation and to find new loving homes for these deserving animals.  Despite the economic challenges of 2009, your generosity made it possible to carry out a record number of cruelty investigations and to make enormous strides in animal welfare in B.C.

With your support, the BC SPCA was able to:

  • Respond to more than 37,000 abused, homeless, injured, lost and abandoned animals across B.C.;

  • Design a new state-of-the-art animal shelter for the community of Maple Ridge.  The shelter, which will open in 2010, is seeking gold level certification the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program;

  • Expand our Drive for Lives program, which transports animals from remote or overpopulated regions to shelters where they will have a greater chance for adoption;

One of the highlights for the BC SPCA in 2009 was the overwhelming success of our Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause Walk, which raised more than $1 million for animals in need.  As a not-for-profit organization which receives almost no government funding, we deeply appreciate the support of animal lovers from across the province, particularly in these challenging economic times.

Sincerely,

Craig Daniell
Chief Executive Officer

Thank you for helping us make B.C. a safer and more humane place for animals in 2009. I wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season and I look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of the animals in the New Year.

PS. It’s not too late to support the animals in 2009.  If you are still looking for a gift for that animal lover on your holiday list, please visit our Pawsitive Gifts site (pawsitivegifts.ca) or our general website at spca.bc.ca for ways to help.  We also encourage you to have a humane holiday meal this year by choosing SPCA Certified products (details on products and participating retailers at spca.bc.ca/farm).
