January 2015

ID is Key

Cat and dog with ID

Happy New Year from everyone here at BC SPCA Kids Club Headquarters! We hope that you and your pets have a great year. To start 2015 off right, we're challenging all pet guardians to make sure your animals all have up-to-date identification, just in case they get lost this year.

If your family has a dog, his or her license needs to be renewed once a year. Cats aren't usually required to be licensed, but they should still have ID. All cats and dogs should have a tag on their collar with their name and your family's phone number, and a permanent ear tattoo or microchip in case the tag falls off. You can make a one-of-a-kind tag for your pet at home!

Want to spread the word to other pet guardians about the importance of ID? Colour this poster and ask to put it up at your school, community centre or local mall.

If your pet does become lost this year, or you find someone else's pet, visit spca.bc.ca/lostfound for help.

Furry Friend of the Month

Vanilla Latte

January's Furry Friend of the Month is Vanilla Latte, along with her sister, Mocha.

These bonded young rats are at the Surrey SPCA, looking for a forever home together. The girls are really friendly and like spending time with people and getting plenty of exercise. Not sure what it takes to care for a rat? You can download our Rat Care Guide to find out!

Please note: Vanilla Latte and Mocha were available for adoption at the time this article was written, and may have found their forever home since then. Visit the BC SPCA website to discover more furry friends currently looking for homes.
