Culling is no solution for urban deer
The B.C.
communities of Oak Bay, Cranbrook, Invermere, Elkford and Kimberley share one
thing in common – their high profile deer culls did not solve human-wildlife
conflicts in their communities. What was learned from the controversial and
tax-dollar funded local management programs, is that indiscriminate culling is
not a sustainable solution to human-deer conflicts. But what could have been
learned?
Wires, nets and lines – weaving a tangled web for wildlife
Despite the allure of fewer natural predators and an
abundance of pre-made shelter options, it isn’t always easy being a city bird.
Entanglements from fishing line, garden netting and bird deterrent wires pose
