June 2015

Express Your Inner Cat!

June is all about cats here at the BC SPCA! This week’s Million Acts act of kindness is to wear your cat ears! Wear them to school, and when classmates and teachers ask about them, take the chance to tell them about the cat overpopulation problem. There are too many cats in B.C. without homes – and that’s why it’s so important to spay and neuter!

Nine-year-old Ellise and her classmates at Coal Tyee Elementary are all ready to show their kindness to cats. Ellise visited the Nanaimo SPCA and got a set of ears to share with her friends. If you’re a Kids Club member, you will have received your cat ears with the last issue of Bark!. You can also make your own using these instructions.

We’d love to see how you express your inner cat. When you wear your cat ears, send us a photo at kids@spca.bc.ca!

BC SPCA Summer Camp

Summer vacation is just around the corner… and that means so is BC SPCA summer camp!

Do you want to spend time at the SPCA this summer, playing, crafting and learning about animals – and even meeting some of them, too? Registration is now open for all 20 summer camp locations, including Campbell River, Comox, Cranbrook, Kamloops and Prince George, plus 15 other locations around B.C.

Don’t wait ‘til summer starts to reserve your spot – some locations are already almost full, or even entirely sold out! If you’re a BC SPCA Kids Club member, you’ll need a code to get your Kids Club discount. If you haven’t already received it, email us at kids@spca.bc.ca.

Sign up at spca.bc.ca/camp and get ready for a summer experience you’ll never forget!

High Paws

Have you checked out our High Paws page recently?

If you’ve committed an act of kindness and had your photo taken at your local BC SPCA branch recently, then you just might be featured there!

One of our recent Hall of Fame inductees is Edmund! Edmund is a celebrity at the North Cariboo SPCA. For three birthdays in a row, he has asked for donations for the shelter instead of gifts for himself. Kindness like that deserves a standing ovation! Thank you, Edmund.

We’re always adding new kids to our online High Paws page, but if we haven’t featured you yet, let us know! Send your photo, name, age, local branch and what you did for the animals and we’ll add you to the Hall of Fame.

Furry Friend of the Month

June's Furry Friend of the Month is Jamberry!

Jamberry is a small and spunky one-year-old cat. She loves everybody and everything  and is looking for a family to play with her and give her lots and lots of love.

Jamberry is looking for her forever home right now at the Kelowna SPCA. If your family isn't in the Kelowna area but you are thinking of adopting a cat, there are hundreds available for adoption! Visit the BC SPCA website to view all of the animals currently looking for homes. Who knows? You just might find the purrrfect match!

Please note: Jamberry was available for adoption at the time this article was written, and may have found her forever home since then.
