Give the Gift of Time

We wouldn’t be able to rescue 37,000 animals a year without our volunteers, so speaking for the animals, we have just one thing to say: Thanks!  The BC SPCA salutes its 4,000 volunteers across the province during National Volunteer Week April 18 to 24. Find out what our volunteers do and how you can become a volunteer, too

Judge rules in favour of BC SPCA in seizure of neglected horses and dogs

 Rescued dog

A B.C. Supreme Court judge has ruled in favour of the BC SPCA in a dispute over the seizure of 28 thin and emaciated horses and 39 terrier mix dogs and puppies last year. The BC SPCA seized the animals following an animal cruelty investigation on a property near Vernon.  As a result of ruling, the animals are now available for adoption.  Visit our news page for more details on the case and the animals looking for loving homes.

Manitoba Egg Farmers embrace Five Freedoms

Egg Farm chickens  In March 2010, Manitoba Egg Farmers announced a progressive policy away from conventional battery cages. Beginning in 2018, egg farmers who build new facilities or undertake a major retrofit will be required to have either enriched cages or an alternative housing system that supports the Five Freedoms. For more information, visit our news page.

Donor of the Month: Jarome Iginla

Jerome Iginla

The animals have a champion of their own. For more than 15 years, Calgary Flames forward Jarome Iginla and his wife, Kara, have shown great generosity and compassion toward the animals of B.C. Iginla is not only a Canadian hockey hero, but a hero to the tens of thousands of animals saved every year at the BC SPCA thanks to support like his.

 Paw Patter

Spaying and neutering decreases the desire for dogs to roam, reduces aggression, and makes them less susceptible to ovarian, uterine and testicular cancer.
