The BC SPCA formally supports a Canadian MP’s move to strengthen animal cruelty laws – and you can help, too, by contacting your MP to express support. Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, the Ontario MP behind private member’s Bill C-246, the Modernizing Animal Protections Act, brought the bill to Parliament with the intent of updating the Criminal Code of Canada to “target and prevent animal abuse.”
The work you read about in Anim@ls each month is possible because B.C. animal lovers like you stand up in support of animals in need. The BC SPCA is proud to share a new program and online tool for supporters to turn things they love into wonderful ways of raising money for animals in need. Run a race, donate your birthday, or throw a party!
Some
things bring out the worst in people and others, like our furry family
members, can bring out the very best. Find out all about a new BC SPCA
television ad campaign that focuses on how animals bring out the human
in us, as well as the child, the lover and the healer who live in each
of us.
Do animals enrich your life? Join the BC SPCA in thanking them! This May, in honour of Be Kind to Animals Month, we are encouraging people to “dare to care” – to take a little extra time to appreciate everything that animals mean to us and explore ways that we can give back. Plus, it never hurts to be kind!
Did you know there’s an urgent issue that affects more than 650 million animals in Canada each year? The country’s transport rules for farm animals are old, outdated and enable suffering for millions of animals throughout the country, as they endure long trips to slaughter, often for days without food or water.
In the care of the BC SPCA since January, we're not sure why Wurrs Steve Johnson (animal id #391196) has been overlooked, but hopefully his wait will end soon. Although not a good match for homes with children or other cats, Wurrs is an intelligent and social guy that is capable of being both independent and loving. Is he the right match for you?
Lucy came into the care of the BC SPCA Trail Branch in January 2009 when she was just a young pup, living in precarious circumstances. She was taken sent into fostercare and, by chance, her adoptive family met her here. Seven years later, her family has shared this update on Lucy, now named Lily, and the profound impact she has had on their lives.
Dogs may need to wear a muzzle for a variety of reasons, so we need to change the stigma that surrounds them. Watch our "Tip Tuesday" video to learn more.
