Municipalities urged to hop on board plan to prevent rabbit overpopulation
The University of Victoria is moving ahead with plans to cull most of the 1,600 rabbits currently occupying its campus, despite the BC SPCA’s plea to have the university consider more creative non-lethal methods to address the problem. The BC SPCA has no legal authority to stop the cull.
"This problem is caused by the irresponsible sale and abandonment of rabbits,” says animal welfare manager Geoff Urton.
“Municipalities need to enact bylaws immediately that regulate rabbit sales." You can help by asking Greater Victoria municipalities to comply.
