Most people know that dogs should wear collars in case they get lost, but what about cats?

If your family has a cat at home, she should always wear a collar, along with having permanent identification like a tattoo or microchip.

Indoor cats, too? Yes! Even if your cat is indoor-only, having a collar is a good idea in case she accidentally gets out and becomes lost. If someone finds her it will be the fastest way for them to find out who to call.

The type of collar is also important. Giving your cat a breakaway collar means that, if it gets caught on something, it will unfasten and prevent your cat from being injured or choking. This is also why it’s so important to make sure she has another form of ID, just in case!

Watch our video to learn why breakaway collars are so important.

Lyle the pig has been living at the BC SPCA Good Shepherd Barn for more than a year now, waiting to find his forever home. He arrived as part of a cruelty investigation and was very fearful of people. Luckily, the staff and volunteers at the barn took their time to gain Lyle’s trust. Fast forward and now he’s a friendly, chatty boy who likes to be groomed, have his belly and feet rubbed, and even sing!

Learn more about Lyle and see a video of him singing!

While Lyle was available for adoption at the time this article was written, he may have found his forever home by now. Want to see other animals (including pigs) up for adoption? Visit spca.bc.ca/adopt and click “Other animals” to see all the different types of animals in need of homes.

Audi (previously Dakota) arrived at the North Peace SPCA in Fort St. John as a young pup. When he found his forever home with a loving family, it was just the beginning of his story!

Audi’s new guardians came into his life after dropping off donations for the cats at the SPCA. They weren’t “dog people,” but meeting Audi changed that for them. Audi came home and joined the family, which included two cat siblings.

When Audi was six months old, he was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. This required a major operation, and meant Audi had to rest for three months in order to recover. That’s a long time for any dog, let alone a puppy! But the rest paid off, and eventually Audi was able to go for runs at the park, and swim in the ocean while on vacation.

Audi has also become a very accomplished pup. He has passed the Canine Good Neighbour test, received a medal from the Dock Divers competition, participates in the BC SPCA Paws for a Cause, and is training to be a St. John’s Ambulance therapy dog. Plus, he’s now a brother to another rescued pooch named Arlo. It sounds like Audi really did find the perfect forever home!

e-kids_Furry-Friend_banner.png

e-kids_Furry-Friend_Pita_300.pngNovember’s Furry Friend of the Month is Pita, a fluffy five-year-old Angora rabbit who is sweet as can be!

Pita is looking to be adopted along with her buddy, Jupiter. These two are a bonded pair and need a nice place to live together, where they will get daily grooming to keep up their stylish ‘dos!

Pita and Jupiter are currently staying at the Victoria SPCA until they find their forever home.

Please note: Pita and Jupiter were available for adoption at the time this article was written and may have found a home since then. Visit spca.bc.ca/adopt to see all the animals up for adoption at the BC SPCA.
