Everybody loves a happy ending! The first in our new series of adoption “tails,” Kiwi is one of the animals who has found a forever home through the BC SPCA.

Kiwi’s adoption story starts even before he was born. His mother was surrendered to the Kamloops SPCA while pregnant, and Kiwi was born at the shelter. After a couple of months with his mama and littermates, Kiwi was ready to strike out on his own and find a forever family.

Kiwi’s new guardian knew right away that she wanted to adopt him. She describes him as a “stubborn, timid puppy” at first, but now that she has given him lots of socialization and positive reinforcement training, he is a friendly and agreeable pup who loves both humans and other dogs.

Kiwi was adopted just last year, so is still a puppy and loves to play. He even has a best friend who is close in age to him, and they love to do everything together!

What is one final thing Kiwi’s guardian wants to share? “Kiwi is a great dog and I definitely recommend anyone to adopt rather than shop.”

Do you have an adoption “tail” you’d like to share? Email us a story and photo and your pet could be featured in a future issue of e-Kids!

eKids_National-Cupcake-Day_300.pngDo you love to bake cupcakes? How about eating cupcakes?

With National Cupcake Day on February 26, you can do both – all while helping animals!

It’s easy to get involved. With a parent’s permission, you can sign up at nationalcupcakeday.ca and be part of this very special bake sale for animals in need.

Cupcake Day is the perfect event for schools. If you’d like to get your class involved, ask your teacher about hosting a Cupcake Party at lunchtime!

Don’t forget to send us a photo of you and your cupcakes and tell us how it went. You could be featured in Bark! magazine or e-Kids.

eKids_High-paws-banner.png

eKids_High-Paws-Kate_300.pngAll throughout the year, kids across the province visit BC SPCA shelters to see the animals and, in many cases, make donations of supplies or money that they have collected. We appreciate each and every one of you. Starting this month, e-Kids will feature one kid who has made a difference in the previous month.

Meet Kate! This amazing 11-year-old recently used her birthday to make a difference for homeless animals in her community. Instead of presents, she asked for donations to the Vernon SPCA. Thanks to Kate’s thoughtful idea, and her friends’ generosity, she was able to make a $90 donation to help the animals. High Paws, Kate!

Did you know? High Paws stories are included in every issue of Bark! magazine, as well as on our provincial Facebook page each week. Keep an eye out – you just might see yourself!

eKids_Furry-Friend_Estelle_300x425.pngFebruary’s Furry Friend of the Month is Estelle.

This adorable three-month-old tabby kitten is awaiting her purrfect match at the Prince Rupert SPCA. Estelle is described as “playful, affectionate and litter trained.” She’s a real sweetheart.

We hope that Estelle will soon have a new family with a happy adoption “tail” to share!

Please note: Estelle was available for adoption at the time this article was written, and may have found her forever home since then. To see all of the animals up for adoption at the BC SPCA, visit spca.bc.ca/adopt.
