Jayden received 875 votes for her T-shirt design. Honourable mentions go to Emma Kononowicz, Darynn Bednarczyk and Kristin Linkletter, who received more than 600 votes each to help the animals.
Cats and kittens rescued from hoarder
Twenty-three cats and kittens were rescued last month from an East Vancouver home, where they were living among feces, urine, mould, garbage and other debris.
They have since been spayed/neutered and treated for parasites, ear mites, fleas and other maladies, and many are available for adoption. These animals are among hundreds of cats and kittenscurrently in the society’s care at branches across the province.

Horse slaughter oversight questionable
Earlier this summer, we notified you about our report to federal agencies, outlining serious concerns about the welfare of horses during slaughter in Canada.
Incredibly, government officials have told us they found no major regulatory deficiencies in the same video footage that shows horses slipping and falling and being electrically prodded and inaccurately stunned at government-licensed plants. This points to serious deficiencies in Canada’s humane slaughter policies and enforcement.
“We have a lot of pride in our product and our farm,” says owner Rob Donaldson.

After meeting Justice Janveaux, you can’t help but believe in a brighter future for animals.
At just 15, Justice’s work on behalf of animals is a lengthy list that includes lobbying parliament to ban poisonous ethylene glycol antifreeze, promoting animal adoption and fundraising extensively for animals in need.
For the month of August, shelters will be naming homeless animals “Justice” in celebration of the work done by this amazing animal ambassador. Thank you, Justice!
