The BC SPCA has a chance to win $100,000 in the Pepsi Refresh Project, an online grant giveaway where individuals vote for their favourite community initiative.

SPCA talks turkey for the first time
Just in time for Thanksgiving, the BC SPCA welcomes Ladybug Manor (Aldergrove, B.C.) as the first farm to become SPCA Certified for turkey.
Their turkey is available in stores throughout the Lower Mainland for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas markets.
“Becoming SPCA Certified was a natural decision for us – the program standards fall perfectly in line with our passion for raising healthy, happy turkeys for the local market,” says owner Rod Lacey.
Make the switch - use pet-friendly antifreeze
With the chill of fall in the air, you may be thinking about getting your vehicle’s antifreeze checked. Traditional ethylene glycol is deadly to pets and wildlife. Just a tablespoonful will kill a cat or small dog.
Whether you do it yourself or have it done at a shop, switch to animal-friendly propylene glycol antifreeze. Many automotive stores and service centres will supply pet-friendly antifreeze if you insist on it.
The BC SPCA has created curriculum units that help children develop self-esteem, empathy and compassion.
Our lesson plans and presentations are designed to not only teach them respect for animals and nature, but for each other.
So tell a teacher you know about our classroom resources, and help reduce bullying and anti-social behaviour in schools.
In the market for SPCA Certified?
SPCA Certified products may be coming to a farmers market near you!
Meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products with the SPCA Certified label are available at various farmers markets throughout B.C. in September and October.

Man charged in suspected cast of serial Pekingese abuse
Pitt Meadows resident David Chan has been charged with animal cruelty in what the BC SPCA suspects is a sad case of serial abuse.
BC SPCA constables took Chan’s two remaining Pekingese dogs into protective custody after learning that the accused had taken 11 Pekingese dogs to three different vet clinics on numerous occasions between 2008 and 2010, all suffering from suspicious injuries and ailments.
Back by popular demand, the 2011 BC SPCA Animal Lovers’ Calendar features winners from our first online calendar contest held earlier this year.
This gorgeous datebook includes photos and stories from our furry friends who helped to raise more than $23,000 in support of homeless, injured and abused animals.
We hope that every time you use this calendar you'll be reminded of how your support helps animals in need, every day.
The philanthropic leadership, dedication and commitment of Anne Foote and her late husband Eldon have had a tremendous effect on animals in the Victoria area, where they have been outstanding supporters of the local branch for more than seven years.
During September, we encourage our branches to name one homeless animal in tribute to them. We hope to have a lot of furry Footsies finding forever homes this month!
Paw Patter
There are more than 3,000 cats and kittens in BC SPCA shelters, adoption centres and foster homes across the province. If you are thinking about bringing a furry feline into your family, consider adopting from the BC SPCA.
