A Duncan man is facing animal cruelty charges after BC SPCA special constables seized 10 badly neglected horses and other farm animals from his property.

Pets in people places
Every year, hundreds of animals are surrendered to BC SPCA shelters because their guardians couldn’t find pet-friendly housing. In response, the BC SPCA has created an online rental toolkit packed with information, advice and support materials to help guardians, their pets, their neighbours and their landlords live in peaceful harmony. Calling all teachers!
Ever wonder how you can share your love of animals with your students and meet learning outcomes at the same time? Look no further! The BC SPCA has developed curriculum units for kindergarten to Grade 7. Topics range from dog-bite prevention to taking action for animals, and are designed to teach students compassion and empathy skills. You can even book a class presentation with one of our humane educators.
Year of the Rabbit
2011 is Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese lunar calendar, which means there is no better time to show some bunny you care! Check out your nearest BC SPCA branch to enquire about adoption, fostering, volunteering or joining our advocacy campaign to help abandoned rabbits in your community.
We would never miss a chance to celebrate the Campbell River SPCA’s wonderful manager, Kathleen Embree, and this month we have two. January marks Embree’s 25th anniversary with the BC SPCA and she has also been named Donor of the Month!
Embree has dedicated her life to animal welfare and hopes to lead by compassionate example as a donor. “I’m just so proud of the work we do every day, and the lives we change.”
Paw Patter
Last year, the BC SPCA took in more than 10,000 stray cats and kittens. Because so few had pet identification, only 900 were redeemed by their guardians. By contrast, 65 per cent of dog guardians redeemed their animals.
