Ask not what animals can do for you – ask what you can do for animals

BC SPCA news: Celebrate animals with the BC SPCA in MayThese may not be the exact words of John F. Kennedy, but when it comes to Be Kind to Animals Month, the sentiment behind them is right on!

During the month of May, the BC SPCA is encouraging people to take time to do something kind for animals, such as volunteering at their local shelter or creating a bee-friendly garden.

Animals give us so much – it is time to give back!

Pet on the Net

 Kat

Kat is a special six-year-old feline who survived a terrible situation.

In December 2010, a BC SPCA animal protection officer was called to Kat's former home. She was found with such badly matted fur that she could hardly move her legs. Her former owner could not afford to provide her with food or the proper care she deserved and surrendered Kat to the BC SPCA.

Now that she's receiving regular care and grooming, she's ready for her new forever home.

Meet Kat today!

 Happy Endings

Thelma

Thelma was homeless when she was found hanging around a home in Coldstream.

After two-months in our care, she was adopted but things didn't work out and Thelma returned to the BC SPCA to continue her search for a loving new home.

But, we knew there was a home out there just for her.

Saanich takes a leap forward… Victoria next!

In March, we asked for your support in urging Victoria and Saanich to enact bylaws to regulate the sale of rabbits in pet stores.

BC SPCA animal welfare: rabbit bylawsBylaws like these are an important part of the long-term solution to rabbit abandonment and overpopulation. Thanks in part to your efforts, Saanich passed a bylaw requiring all rabbits to be sterilized prior to sale from a pet store. Victoria is still considering a bylaw, so now is the chance to let city council know that preventing rabbit suffering is important to you.

Send an email voicing your support today!

Paw Patter

Adopting an animal is good for your health!

Simply talking to or petting an animal can slow your heart rate and lower your blood pressure, making you feel more relaxed. In fact, studies have shown that people who continuously have pets in their lives are healthier than those who no longer have pets or who have never had pets.
