May is Adoption Awareness Month

Bring Love Home - scruffy dog200.jpgYou can’t buy love... but you sure can adopt it! The BC SPCA is celebrating Adoption Awareness Month in May and is hoping that anyone planning to bring a new pet into their life will consider the BC SPCA as their “first adoption option”. There are thousands of beautiful animals – dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits and small animals – just waiting for their new forever home.

Cast your vote... and help the animals

calendar-contest200.jpgOne hundred and eight adorable pets are vying for thirteen spots in our annual Animal Lovers’ Calendar. They’ve already raised more than $23,000 to help provide rescue and relief to suffering animals.

When the contest closes on May 10 at 12 noon the animal with the most votes will be our 2013 Cover Pet and 12 others will be monthly features. If your family and friends pitch in, it’s not too late to win a spot for your special friend.

Five ways you can make a difference

FiveWaystoMakeaDifference200.jpgMay is Be Kind to Animals Month and the BC SPCA is challenging you to make a difference for animals. Here are five suggestions to get you started:

  1. Adopt from the BC SPCA – all adoptable animals are listed online and updated every 30 minutes!
  2. Volunteer to be a foster home for an abandoned cat, a rescued dog, a lonely rabbit or a frightened guinea pig.
  3. Commit to buying SPCA Certified foods – cage-free eggs, beef, chicken and more.
  4. Toss the choke chain and use a humane collar for dog walking.
  5. Enrol a child in the BC SPCA Kids Club. For just $15 you will be nurturing a more compassionate next generation.

Donor of the Month: Entrance Automation Systems Inc.

Donor of the month 200 px.JPGEntrance Automation Systems Inc. is proud to support the BC SPCA. While the company appreciates that there are many organizations that look after people, there are few that provide care and protection for animals. As generous supporters of the Surrey SPCA, the company not only donates funds to the shelter, but most recently paid for rental trucks to be used to help move supplies and even donated their muscle to help too!

Calling all green thumbs!

Is your vegetable garden so successful you are actually giving produce away? Consider sharing your bounty with small animal guardians you may know. Foods such as parsley, carrot tops, romaine lettuce and cucumbers are relished by many rabbits and guinea pigs – and it will save their grateful guardians a trip to the market!
