Overwhelming number of responses to draft Pig Code
Our thanks to all of the BC SPCA supporters who
participated in the Pig Code public comment process.
The National Farm Animal Care Council received a record 4,700
submissions, and close to 1,000 of these responses came from British
Columbians!

Buy, Sell & Trade
joins fight against puppy mills
The
fight against puppy mills and other unscrupulous animal breeders has taken another leap forward with a decision by the owners of Buy,
Sell & Trade to remove the posting of private pet ads. Instead of posting
ads selling animals, the Buy, Sell & Trade is now posting links to SPCA
pets for adoption across B.C.

B.C. horse owners
are invited to join Dr. Bettina Bobsien, equine veterinary specialist, for a
free talk about the new requirements for horse care in Canada. Events will take
place in Prince George, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Nanaimo and Chilliwack. Topics
include nutrition, health, housing, humane training breeding and other aspects
of the new Equine Code of Practice.

Abused dog gets a second chance – thanks
to our generous supporters
Bode,
a friendly, three-year-old German shepherd received surgery to save his badly
injured leg after generous animal lovers responded to his plight. The badly
abused pup had multiple face wounds, broken teeth, a
ripped ear and he was suffering from a broken hind leg that was never treated.

smart! They recognize
themselves in a mirror and remember the faces of their family. Pigs also have
an amazing ability to problem solve.
Research has shown pigs learn as fast as
chimps and more quickly than dogs in video game tests where
they must move a computer cursor to a target on screen to earn a food reward.
