Roo, a three-month-old bullmastiff cross puppy, joined local dignitaries and BC SPCA representatives on Sept. 24 at a special celebration at the BC SPCA Spay Neuter Clinicin Prince George.
The homeless pup made her mark in SPCA history as the 15,000th animal to be sterilized at the clinic, which opened in November 2005 to help the community deal with its overwhelming pet overpopulation issue.
The dogs, which included shih tzus, chihuahuas, pugs and terrier crosses, were seized on Sept. 24 from a location in Abbotsford, but the BC SPCA says the owner of the seized animals also bred dogs in various locations in the valley, including Chilliwack and Maple Ridge and owns a pet store, where they sell the puppies.
Two of the other locations, including the pet store, are also currently under SPCA investigation.

Bangs, bells and blasts: Halloween is scary for some pets
Many of us with fearful dogs dread the Halloween season with all the loud bangs, scary costumed people and constant comings and goings to the house. Fireworks blasts are especially concerning as they can cause significant stress for some dogs.
Coddling your pet can actually contribute to anxiousness, so consult the BC SPCA’s fact sheet on our website to help desensitize your dog to loud noises and fearful situations.
Don't let ghosts, ghouls and goblins get to your pet
Halloween can be a scary time of year even for dogs who aren’t normally fearful.
Keeping chocolate treats away from your pet and ensuring he is wearing proper, up-to-date identification are some of the ways you can ensure his safety.
For pennies a day, you can proudly say you are helping to rescue animals from a life of pain.
Join the BC SPCA with a monthly gift, and help us create sustainable plans for animal care, education and rescue. Monthly giving is easy, convenient and flexible.
In addition, Scotiabank employees fundraise and volunteer their time to help animals in need. To further show their passionate commitment, all funds raised by employees are generously matched by Scotiabank.
We are truly honoured to have Scotiabank as part of the BC SPCA family!

We still need your help!
We only have until Oct. 31 to collect as many votes as we can to win $100,000 in the Pepsi Refresh Project, an online grant program where individuals vote for their favourite community project.
Our project will provide low-cost spay/neuter operations for hundreds of animals across the province and will fund research to identify permanent solutions to the tragedy of pet overpopulation. Vote now!
