Poor
Maximus was found homeless and injured in Salmon Arm on February 16,
2011.
A few compassionate members of the community came to the rescue
and took him to the BC SPCA Shuswap Branch.
When he arrived, a
preliminary exam found that he was suffering with a possible broken leg,
a few bite wounds and was understandably exhausted and depressed.
Rufus was adopted more than 14 years ago from the original BC SPCA
Richmond Branch before it closed to make way for the new Education &
Adoption Centre.
He was adopted by Elaine and her family when he was only six weeks
old. After enjoying the Happy Endings shared with animal lovers on our
website, they wrote to us with an update on our old friend Rufus.
Have you ever wondered what makes your dog tick or why he or she behaves in a certain way?
The BC SPCA is offering classes to help dog guardians tackle common behavioural issues such as aggression towards people or other dogs, separation anxiety, phobias, attention-seeking and other training issues. The half-day sessions are presented by clinical animal behavourist Dr. Jill Taggart and run Saturdays through August 27.
A BC SPCA team of eight responded to an ASPCA request to help Joplin Humane Society workers with more than 1,000 animals affected by a May 22 tornado.
The team spent the week of June 19 braving hot sun and humidity, putting in 12-hour days helping with animal care, reunification, administration and other tasks. Nearly 500 animals have been reunited with their families.
Warm congratulations to the team for their dedication and compassion.
Year after year, BC SPCA summer camps continue to be a huge hit with young animal lovers across the province.
Kids spend a week playing games, making crafts, creating skits and listening to great guest speakers – all while discovering the world of companion, farm and wild animals.
The BC SPCA is asking for your help in solving a cruelty investigation regarding a three-week-old kitten who was found on East 33rd Avenue near Slocan Street in Vancouver on June 4.
The tiny kitten, named Stanley by Vancouver shelter staff for his fighting spirit and in honour of the Canucks, was suffering from a deep laceration that cut through his skin and into muscle around the entire circumference of his neck.
