All they want for Christmas is a home. The BC SPCA currently has 4,000 wonderful animals in our care who want nothing more than to be part of a loving family.
During December, the SPCA is launching Home for the Holidays – a pet adoption drive to find homes for as many animals as possible.
Please help us by sharing news about animals for adoption with your friends and family – or bring your own new best friend Home for the Holidays.
Ming, a beautiful 10 year-old domestic short hair, ended up in the care of the BC SPCA Alberni-Clayoquot Branch on July 12, 2011 because her dad was losing his house and the shelter he was staying in would not allow pets.
On December 20, 2010, tiny little Christophe arrived at the BC SPCA Prince Rupert Branch
weighing a mere seven and a half pounds. He was found abandoned on the
streets and his chance of survival was small, due to malnourishment and
frigid cold temperatures.
The holidays are a time for sharing, and if you have an animal lover on your gift list this year, why not honour them with a gift that will make a difference for animals in need?
We have lots of great holiday giving ideas, including clothing and other merchandise on our Shop SPCA site, Pawsitive gifts to help animals in our care, memberships in the BC SPCA Kids Club and more.
The BC SPCA is excited to announce the launch of an innovative new online Pet Search site that will help reunite thousands of lost pets with their anxious families.
In addition to featuring photos and descriptions of lost animals in care in all BC SPCA shelters, the public will be able to post their own photos and descriptions of lost and found animals directly on the site.
You can be naughty at the table but nice in the kitchen this holiday season, thanks to SPCA Certified food products. For many people, one of the great things about holiday celebrations is the food.
At your table this holiday season serve SPCA Certified turkey, lamb, ham, eggs, cheese, chicken and beef – all produced to high animal welfare standards set out by the BC SPCA.

For the last 11 years, Nanaimo volunteer Audrey Aquino has operated and administered the branch’s extremely successful donation can program.
Recently, this one-woman program reached the $100,000 mark – funds that go towards the care and protection of thousands of animals.
Audrey’s outstanding achievement would not be possible without thousands of unknown donors as well as local businesses who have supported the program and she would like to share this honour with them. Thank you!
Ever wonder what fuels Santa’s reindeer for that annual flight?
During the winter, when food is scarce, reindeer feed mainly on lichen. Lichen survives the cold because of its unique combination of algae and fungus.
Thanks to the algae, lichen doesn’t require much sunlight to grow, and the spongy material of the fungus holds up against harsh temperatures.
Reindeer sniff out lichen beneath the snow, uncovering it with their hooves or antlers. Lichen doesn’t contain much protein, but it is high in carbohydrates, providing reindeer with a source of quick-burning energy.
