Take Action in 2014!

Happy New Year from e-Kids! To all the kids who took great care of their pets and helped animals in their communities in 2013, High Paws!

Want to be featured in a future issue of e-Kids News? Email us and tell us how you took action for animals in 2013 – or what you’re planning for 2014!

Here are just some of the ways to make a difference every month this year:

January

February

February: Participate in National Cupcake Day for SPCAs & Humane Societies on February 24.

March

March: For Small Animal Month, learn about caring for rats, mice, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits with our Small Animal Care Guides.

 April

April: Celebrate Wildlife Month – and Earth Day on April 22 – by cleaning up trash at your local park or beach.

 May

May: It’s Be Kind to Animals Month! Discover new animal stories at your school or public library and spread the word that kindness counts!

 June

June: As the summer heats up, make sure you know how to keep pets safe in hot weather (and tell others, too!).

 July

July: Attend a BC SPCA summer camp this month or next, or get friends together to host a summer fundraiser for animals like a lemonade stand or car wash.

 August

August: Sign up for the Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause and collect pledges leading up to your local Paws event in September.

 September

September: Be a voice for animals at school – start a school animal club!

 October

October: It’s Farm Animal Month. Learn more about farm animals and where your food comes from.

 November

 December

December: This is a time for family, friends and lots of food. Bake these tasty treats for your dog during the holiday season, or any time of year!

Bark! Magazine

Bark! magazine

The Winter 2014 issue of Bark! magazine is coming soon to BC SPCA Kids Club members! Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Read “Sub-Zero Heroes,” the amazing rescue story of dogs Honey and Chance.
  • Learn how to create your own tube treat tower for your cat!
  • How easy – or hard – is it to find homes for a litter of kittens? Do the “Oh my…kittens” activity to find out.

Along with four issues of Bark! each year, Kids Club membership includes a Kids Club kit with official membership card, mini collector button, posters, stickers and more. Plus, members get discounts on BC SPCA summer camps and youth workshops and access to exclusive Kids Club contests with great prizes!

Furry Friend of the Month

Petal

January’s Furry Friend of the Month is Petal, a pretty black cat at the Kelowna SPCA.

Petal is a sweet girl who really needs a forever home. Just one year old, she arrived at the animal shelter as a stray. Petal is very affectionate with people and gets along with other cats.

Please note: Petal was available for adoption at the time this article was written, and may have found her forever home since then. Visit the BC SPCA website to discover more furry friends currently looking for homes.
