Made in Canada solutions to farm animal welfare
Earlier this year, the Federal Government announced $3.4 million in funding for animal welfare projects, including new Codes of Practice for the Care and Handling of Farm Animals.
The BC SPCA, in partnership with many experts, has created a number of resources for farmers!

This conference is designed for scientists and others working in animal behaviour, health and welfare, and in particular those concerned with practical assessment and auditing.

The BC SPCA is pleased to announce the launch of SPCA Certified Standards for the Raising and Handling of Sheep.
This marks the seventh standard to be launched under the SPCA Certified program. “As with all our program standards, this is an evidence-based standard,” says Alyssa Bell Stoneman, SPCA Certified program supervisor. “We looked to the existing research on sheep and relied on the expertise from an incredible group of advisors, including producers, veterinarians and experts in the field of animal welfare and behaviour.”
The BC SPCA thanks the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada for its generous funding, which made the development of the sheep standards possible. We also thank the many experts who donated their time in reviewing the standards.
"Becoming SPCA Certified was a natural decision for us – the program standards fall perfectly in line with our passion for raising healthy, happy turkeys for the local market,” says owner Rod Lacey.
