Three strikes for saw-whets at Wild ARC
Late
fall signals raptor season for wildlife rehabilitators, and reflective windows
pose a distinct hazard for urban and migratory birds. This season, BC SPCA Wild
ARC admitted three Northern saw-whet owls in as many days, all suffering from
head trauma after hitting windows. Luckily, there are simple steps homeowners
can take to prevent these collisions.
B.C. fur farms investigated
Horrifying footage from fur farms across Canada were
released this month, shining light on an industry in the province that few
British Columbians know about.
Fur may be our history, but compassion can be our future.
Find out more about the scope of this practice happening in B.C. and join the
Make Fur History campaign.
Procrastination pays!
Winter is a tough season for wild animals. Deep snow and freezing temperatures make finding food and shelter a daily struggle. Did you know that you can help them by simply putting off your usual fall yard clean-up? Avoid that last mow and rake of the season, and you can create a winter wildlife haven.
