The experts are predicting one of the worst winters on record for B.C. this year, so be sure to follow these tips to keep your pet safe and happy when the cold weather hits.
Golden is ready and raring to have his second chance at finding a forever family.
He ended up in the care of the BC SPCA on May 18, 2011 when his former owners were moving to an apartment and could not take this friendly guy with them.
Cane & Cherry were originally brought into the BC SPCA Quesnel & District Branch with some of their other siblings as they were from an unexpected litter. They spent a couple of weeks in Quesnel with hopes a family would come in to adopt them, but no one did.
With the cold fall weather upon us we tend to cling to home, which makes this time of year all the more poignant for those who don't have one.
Across the province, BC SPCA shelters have many animals waiting patiently for new forever homes, but none more so than senior animals. Senior animals make wonderful pets — they are already house-trained, and are just as loving, loyal, and as much fun as younger animals.
It’s that time of year when we start searching for the perfect little something for teachers, friends or secret Santa gifts.
How about a little gift with a big heart from Pawsitive Gifts such as a week of puppy care, a Hide, Perch & Go box for a frightened cat, or shelter for a little critter?
The animal lover in your life will be sure to appreciate their gift knowing it has helped an animal in need.
It includes a membership card, activity guide, a subscription to our youth magazine, Bark!, monthly e-newsletters and chances to win prizes and discounts at BC SPCA youth events. Through the Kids Club kids learn about animal care and making a difference for animals.
This year, make your holiday even better by using SPCA Certified meat, poultry, cheese and eggs. Look through our recipes, and have fun experimenting with new cooking and baking ideas.
At the BC SPCA, we put farm animal welfare at the top of our holiday list by certifying farms that meet our high standards of animal welfare.
SPCA Certified products are available across B.C. and Alberta. Certified turkeys can be ordered from:
The BC SPCA has seized 90 Berkshire pigs and 16 ducks from a property near Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island after their owner refused to comply with SPCA orders to improve the welfare of the animals.
The animals were living in substandard and dangerous conditions and were suffering from untreated parasites and medical problems.
The BC SPCA will be recommending charges of animal cruelty in the case.
We are honoured to recognize our long-time supporter, Bosley’s Pet Food Plus, as our Donor of the Month.
Bosley’s recently donated $11,087.39 to the BC SPCA. The funds were raised during a pet appreciation weekend to collect donations for local BC SPCA branches. Twenty-five Bosley’s locations took part in the campaign, encouraging their customers to join them in supporting animals in need.
The BC SPCA is grateful to Bosley's and its customers for their continued generosity.

Warning! Don’t let cool cats turn into frosty felines.
Consider how winter nights affect an outdoor cat. A cat’s fur “puffs out” in cold weather to create an insulating warm air layer but ears, toes and tails are susceptible to frostbite as they are only lightly protected by fur. Early signs of frostbite include shivering and pale to almost white skin on ears. As the cat warms up, these tissues turn bright red, then pale and finally black as the tissues die.
The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization funded primarily by public donations. Our mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. The Society provides a wide range of services, including cruelty investigations, emergency rescue and treatment, sheltering and adoption of homeless and abused animals, humane education, advocacy, farm animal welfare, spay/neuter programs, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
