September 2013 Issue 127
Sissy has made incredible progress since being in our care. She loves
her doggy friends at the shelter and would love to find a home where she
has a K9 brother or sister.
Originally found abandoned in a box in Lillooet, fortune found Linus and he is now living a happy carefree life with a loving family and lots of doggy friends.
The
fight against puppy mills and other unscrupulous animal breeders has taken another leap forward with a decision by the owners of Buy,
Sell & Trade to remove the posting of private pet ads. Instead of posting
ads selling animals, the Buy, Sell & Trade is now posting links to SPCA
pets for adoption across B.C.
Did you know that only 17 per cent of all pets in B.C. families come from an SPCA shelter or rescue group? On Thursday, Sept. 26, help us raise awareness about the beautiful animals awaiting their forever homes.
Remember Me Thursday is a global awareness event to highlight pet adoption – light a candle to let the animals know you are thinking of them.
B.C. horse owners
are invited to join Dr. Bettina Bobsien, equine veterinary specialist, for a
free talk about the new requirements for horse care in Canada. Events will take
place in Prince George, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Nanaimo and Chilliwack. Topics
include nutrition, health, housing, humane training breeding and other aspects
of the new Equine Code of Practice.
At your next meal, why not serve SPCA Certified chicken, beef, lamb or
pork instead of factory farmed meats?
The SPCA Certified program has been dedicated to improving farm animal
welfare since its launch in 2002. Choose SPCA Certified foods to help ensure
farm animals lead healthier, more natural, cage-free lives.
Abused dog gets a second chance – thanks
to our generous supporters
Bode,
a friendly, three-year-old German shepherd received surgery to save his badly
injured leg after generous animal lovers responded to his plight. The badly
abused pup had multiple face wounds, broken teeth, a
ripped ear and he was suffering from a broken hind leg that was never treated.

Pigs are very
smart! They recognize
themselves in a mirror and remember the faces of their family. Pigs also have
an amazing ability to problem solve.
Research has shown pigs learn as fast as
chimps and more quickly than dogs in video game tests where
they must move a computer cursor to a target on screen to earn a food reward.
