This gorgeous Bufflehead was chased by an Eagle until it smashed right into a window! She laid there, seriously injured, until a Good Samaritan rushed her to Wild ARC.
Upon initial assessment, rehab staff found that the Bufflehead was suffering from shock after smashing into the window. She had suffered from head trauma, and lost a significant amount of weight. The Bufflehead had swelling on both feet, as well as some lesions along the joints in her right foot.
Blood tests and analyses will need to be done to see if there are any further internal injuries, inflammation or internal parasites present. The bird will need regular feedings and check-ups by rehab staff, starting out at every hour and a half, to make sure she is eating properly and her weight is increasing at a healthy rate. The rehabilitation for these waterfowl is extremely expensive as they require such specialized care and staff time.
And this little survivor deserves every minute we can give her!
