Momoa is a beautiful 2 year old Rottweiler boy who was found roaming at a landfill near Campbell River. It is believed he was on his own for a couple of weeks before he was discovered there. The Good Samaritan gently coaxed Momoa into their vehicle and drove him to the local pound. Animal control then contacted the BC SPCA to see if we could take on Momoa’s case and he was transferred to the Comox BC SPCA.

As soon as he arrived, it was obvious that something was very wrong. When Momoa walks he is barely putting weight on his right hind leg and relying on his other legs for support. After being examined, it turns out Momoa has a full tear in his right hind ACL which means he tore the cruciate ligament in his knee! We can’t imagine how painful it must be for him. His vet estimates he’s been living with this injury for at least 6 months, and has a very hard time getting around. It’s so heartbreaking to think he may have been abandoned at a dump instead of being brought to the shelter straight away. He seems to know we are here to help him and is so grateful to the branch staff, giving kisses to everyone whenever he can!

Despite being on medication to help, he is still in constant pain because of this injury. Momoa is being rushed into surgery and will require a complicated procedure called a TPLO to help stabilize his leg. His recovery will be some time as he will need to take it slow and be carefully monitored to make sure his incision site is healing properly. He will be on cage rest with short walks to help strengthen his leg muscles and get him as healthy as can be.

The staff have fallen for this gentle giant! He’s cuddly, happy go lucky and very loving. Despite his injuries, Momoa will make sure to limp over to anyone who is nearby for pets with a big goofy smile. We are so grateful that he was discovered and is now getting the medical care and love he needs.
