Who knows what would have happened to Kida if a concerned veterinary staff person had not called the BC SPCA hotline after her owner declined treatment.
At an initial vet visit, it was clear that Kida's leg was snapped in half. But with no emergency fund set up to help her, the owners just left and took her home.
Many vets, like this one, do inform people that they have the option to surrender the animal to the BC SPCA if they do not have the funds to treat their animal, but that option was not taken.
A constable was dispatched to Kida's home, where they convinced the owners it was better for Kida to come into BC SPCA care than to face cruelty charges.
So here she is, alone, broken and in need of someone to help her.
