Dixie came to the BC SPCA as a stray with a badly injured hind right lower leg and paw. Based on the injuries characteristics, it is suspected that Dixie was the victim of a foot trap or snare.
By the time she came to us the wound was infected and the tissue was necrotic (dead/no blood flow). After 10 days of vet care trying to fight the infection and save the leg, an emergency decision was made to amputate in order to save Dixie's life. Dixie is now two week post amputation and still battling the infection.
Despite what Dixie has been through with her injury and the unimaginable amount of pain that she must have been in, she continues to be her happy, affectionate, goofy self. We know that Dixie will make a fantastic family member for someone once recovered and feel honored to have been a part of her journey.
Please help sweet Dixie on her road to recovery by donating to her surgery and care today.
Personal updates for Dixie will be provided to anyone who donates to her campaign.
*Goal includes: surgery, medication, vaccinations, regular health check, and daily care for Dixie until she’s ready for adoption. If her medical costs and cost of care is less than is raised in her name, additional funds will provide care for other animals.
