When poor Eddie came to us he had been suffering for at least a year with a terrible skin condition. He’s extremely itchy, flaky and has lost big clumps of hair all over his body and face. The remaining hair he has is matted and his skin stinks of infection. The look on his sad face when he came to our shelter was one of utter defeat.
Eddie’s unfortunate living conditions were reported to us through a concerned citizen. Our BC SPCA Animal Protection Officer went to the house of the guardian the next day, and after an hour of conversation, they agreed to do what was best for Eddie and surrendered him into care. We are so grateful that they made this decision.
This adorable Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix is a gentle giant! Once he was able to get into the vet it was discovered that he has been suffering with hypothyroidism since 2018 which, being left untreated, has caused his hair to fall out and skin to itch. Eddie will need to be on thyroid medication for the rest of his life, but he is happily cooperating with his treatment because treats are involved. His eventual adoptive home will easily be able to maintain his treatment.
He will require medicated shampoo baths on top of antibiotics, grooming, vaccines and a special salmon-only diet, with lots of love to fully recover from his suffering. This big guy needs your support to get as healthy as he can be!
Will you help Eddie by donating to his care?
Personal updates for Eddie will be provided to anyone who donates to his campaign.
*Goal includes: medication, treatment, regular health check, and daily care for Eddie until he’s ready for adoption. If his medical costs and cost of care is less than is raised in his name, additional funds will provide care for other animals.
