This gorgeous river otter pup was found wandering a beach and crying out when she began approaching people. Luckily, a kind member of the public saw this and knew something was wrong. They thankfully called Wild ARC immediately who determined the otter pup was in need of help.
Upon arrival at the centre, she was so dehydrated and emaciated – weighing in at just 1.1 kilograms. It is likely that she was a late-season baby, and for an unknown reason, sadly became separated from her mother. She must have been so scared all alone on that beach! Initially there was concern that there may be some kind of trauma to the pup’s back legs, as she seemed unsteady. After multiple tests and x-rays it was determined that there was no injury to her back legs, she was just very weak from being malnourished and underweight.
The little otter was recently introduced to the other orphaned otter in care at Wild ARC! Our rehabilitation team is focused on bringing her strength back and her weight up. Staff closely monitored an introduction between the two to ensure a successful relationship, and it went great! Both otters will remain in care at Wild ARC through to the Spring when they will be old enough and ready for a second chance at life in the wild.
The cost for food, formula, regular fluid therapy, pool changes and medical care is significant for this little otter, will you help by donating to her ongoing care?
Personal updates for the Otter will be provided to anyone who donates to her campaign.
